Clinical Waste Management Regulations set strict controls on organisations that handle and store clinical waste

These guidelines were published to develop a system for the segregation, packaging and storage of healthcare risk waste generated in Ireland by healthcare professionals to assist with the compliance of all relevant regulations. 

  • National Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections – published by the Health Information and Quality Authority 20 May 2009

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) is the independent authority established “to drive quality, safety, accountability and the best use of resources in our health and social care services, whether delivered by public, voluntary or private bodies”  The National Standards were published to develop a framework amongst healthcare professionals to help deal with the rise in Healthcare Associated Infections in the health system, through maximizing patient safety and improving the health and social care services in Ireland.
